Exploring from afar: Walking Wiltshire's White Horses, a remote experience

I felt unable to go and join these walks in person, being based in my study with the task in hand! However, having heard about the project since its early days from Richard White, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to be involved albeit in the smallest way.
My intention had been to do a daily reci of the walks online and post about my experience as a remote 'walker' on this blog. That didn't materialise for a umber of reasons, including a slow start with the technology recommended. However, I did follow the live gps trace on a couple of days, and the growing facebook photo gallery throughout. I also tried out some of the platforms in use (some new to me) but haven't adopted anything long term to date. Info on the locative media platforms post.

An invitation to be present

On Thursday we set off on a 5 day 100 mile walk.

Please join us, wherever you are!

People have walked these paths ahead of us for generations and many will follow.  As we walk we will listen for their footsteps and leave our own memory trail. We will be joining a conversation that has been running since our ancestors first walked these hills.  We were once only connected by these paths, now we can connect instantly across the globe. During the walk and after we hope you will enjoy a form of creative sharing using the latest and most ancient technologies.

Wherever you are in the world, even if you can’t join us on the walk, we invite you to be present for the five days of the walk and contribute how ever you can via social media.
