A moment mentioned, as Two projects meet

'Touching you touching me' an ongoing series of portraits (or 'selfies' in current terms) with trees. Based on the myspace & Facebook-style friend group photos that started to be popular five or so years ago, the ongoing project was derived from my experience of adapting 'the way I make work' to a woodland environment - during a workshop with a NY performance artist whose name Im sorry to have forgotten - at the brilliant landscape & environment conference at Aberystwyth (2008 or 9?).

This portrait is with my favourite tree in Fosse Park where I walk the dogs when we're staying in Leicester. It's one of the trees featured in my Two Trees project - a series of colour grids documenting subjective and expressive response to the trees during visits to the park over a period of years. Two Trees catches fleeting moments as the seasons pass and the trees take on different significance reflecting the changes in awareness, perception and sensory information - transmigrating and arguably transcending the domains of conceptual sensory and metaphorical information in an exploration of self relationship to other and the power of nature as metaphor and mirror.
This image marks a new direction in the series, hoping to evoke not the sight or touch of skin to bark - edges of experience coming into contact- - rather the unseen felt support of rising sap to spine and the combined patterns of swirling fabric and textured bark as a surface fronting the deep parallels and connection inside.
