Today was the first day of the Making and Unmaking event, and a great start to an interesting 3 days of programmes. This was the gently-paced workshop day, and I presented a slideshow about my work as context to sharing a Creative Mapping workshop in which we created a 3-wall installation with various mapped communicative marks/scales, colour grids and Clean questions exploring individual artistic research interests, and located the grids and accompanying texts on the collective map. The process went down really well, with some interesting results. A few pics to follow...
Janine's presentation was fascinating, sharing her interests and explorations across movement and gravity, 'environmenting', triangulation and text: book-making. Although the starting point was very different, the issues and experiences she is dealing with are surprisingly congruent with what I was presenting/ my research and formed a really poignant (personally) and well-programmed juxtaposition. After a chatty lunch we had a writing presentation and workshop form Alison, and a chance to gather 'found' text and explore the tensions in re-working that collectively. I went out in the street to photograph texts, having found that, in contrast to my usual continuous hand-note-taking I haven't written anything yet today (apart from the colour grid) but have instead been documenting visually and just listening .... focus on one sense taking attention to the others ?!
The pub down the road claims to be the best in London - so we had to go and check that out. Certainly nice guinness and a nice sign too, saying it's good for 'you'!
Looking forward to tomorrow - an evening of performances - and Saturday's tightly packed day of 20 minute papers.
Here's the collective text of the colour grids mapped....
