LSP Group Workshop and Discussion
Session Three: Place
Tuesday 13th December: (am and pm sessions)
Walking Workshop - Taking our research out and about:
Tuesday 13th December: University Park Campus, 11.30-12.30pm.
This one-off workshop will be led by artist and De Montfort-based PhD student Jackie Calderwood. Jackie will be leading participants on a walk across campus. Using Pervasive Media Technologies - the subject of Jackie's ongoing research - walkers will generate their own personal artworks based upon their encounters in the field.
Place Presentation and Reading Group Discussion:
Tuesday 13th December: Location, 2.30-4.30pm.
The workshop will be followed by a two hour reading group in the afternoon during which Jackie Calderwood will give a short presentation identifying how ‘place’ fits in with her other projects and her PhD more generally. We will then examine the walking/work which we created in the workshop and consider this alongside the reading set for this session.
We will consider selected readings from:
1) Ed Casey, The Fate of Place: A philosophical history, (1997)
2) Robert Macfarlane, The Wild Places, (2008)
2) Robert Macfarlane, The Wild Places, (2008)
3) We will also consider the results of our walking workshop (see above)
And the week prior to that, over on a different campus of Nottingham University, I'll be doing a lab talk at Horizon:
Making magic moments? - notation and improvisation with pervasive media art.
An overview of Jackie’s recent worked with gps-triggered media in rural environments, short walk through experimental methods of paying attention, and quick dive into the research questions rippling through the practice.
