Unused part of the metaphorically defined concept ' Theories are buildings'.
ie. Ordinary literal language includes the 'used' part of the metaphor - foundation and outer shell - eg. the foundation of the theory... the argument is shaky... construct a strong argument..
framework of the theory... the argument collapsed...
The unused part (rooms, staircases etc) becomes 'figurative' or 'imaginative' language, whilst still part of the same general metaphor as the literal language.
I just love the statement, titled above. Says so much more than a literal essay on the subject could!
